‘Earth Hour’ initiative at Powai saw excellent response

Over 150 joined the Young Environmentalists' EARTH HOUR at Meluha - The Fern ecotel Powai Mumbai at 8pm on March 26th for a candle vigil with solar lanterns and lit candles. Citizens took a pledge to save Mother Earth's resources and continue to adopt habit to switch off when necessary. Violinist Sunita Bhuyan performed at Meluha at 8pm, enthralling one and all. The Aromas Café at the D 'Mart circle also held a street show of candle light vigil.
In 2010 Hiranandani complex Powai saved 346911 watts whereas this year due to extra hard efforts it saved 5177028 watts. The first prize for this effort went to Kensington[B] of Hiranandani Business Park, for which Rajeev Singh was honoured.
Second, was Ventura building, whose award was given to Sandhya Ramchandani and Vikrant Bakshe, third prize went to building Sommerset for which Simmon Sigo got the award.
Speaking on the occasion Anusuya De of Young Environmentalists said, “The Earth Hour continues to be a global call to action for communities. Climate change is for real, we need to sustain Planet Earth at least for our next generation if not for ourselves, and we owe it to our children and their children!”
Hiranandani Gardens, Powai Mumbai once again was joined by nearly a billion people in India, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Rome, Manila, Singapore, Dubai and over 6000 cities in over 130 countries across the globe to observe the Earth Hour on March 26, 2011. At the function held at Melhua, Daniel Chatterton chief of Rodas Green Team said, “Our hotel is an environmental ecotel therefore we are proud to be part of Earth Hour. We all need to conserve energy and sustain Planet Earth even after this one hour of Earth Hour.”
At the Central Avenue in Hiranandani was Aromas Cafe spreading the earth hour message by its street act along with Young Environmentalists members, as many as 100 gathered around to light candles at the street corner so that the aam janta could also get well informed about Earth Hour!
“Aromas Café is delighted to be part of the Earth Hour on 26th March for the first time and support the worldwide cause of climate change in association with NGO Young Environmentalists programme trust. It is inspiring and encouraging to see how a step as simple as switching off lights for an hour can unite communities and countries towards a single cause. We pledge to the cause and had a candle lit dinner at Aromas Café at our Powai outlet from 8.30pm - 9.30pm on 26th March 2011”said Sapana Malhotra, Executive Director, Aromas Café.
